I love picnic rugs.
They are squares of cloth that give an outing a seat or bed of relaxed fun in the beauty of nature.
Today we went on a picnic. It was last minute and one of my lazy summer days loves.
We simply brought some food from my girls fave takeaway shop, and I had, yes, a book for me.
Under the shade of a gum tree (very Australian) near a simple playground, that was ready to amuse the kids so I could absorb myself in chapter 3, we chilled. It was just perfect.
I always keep a picnic rug of some sort in the car because they are priceless. It means you are always ready with a moments notice to get away from it all and find a piece of paradise to just be and relax.
It does not matter if you are in your daggy home clothes or grand Sunday best as the rug does not judge.
It is just always ready for when you need it.
It is perfect for just time to yourself or to invite your friends to join for cheer.
It is perfect with just a humble sandwich or with a feast complete with a glass of champagne.
It is perfect with the sounds of children's chatter and giggles and smudgy hands, the rustle of the wind through leaves, the rolling song of the surf, or for a lovers escape to steal a kiss.
Pieces of cloth: faithful and faded, dodgy and old, colour clashing or just plain, trendy and new, they are all the best.
Picnic rugs are beautiful.
